Dive Brief:
- A new study by Global Industry Analysts finds that the global health IT market should hit $66 billion by 2020, driven by efforts to streamline critical workflow processes.
- GIA says that number is driven by emphasis on improving profitability of healthcare institutions, increasing demand for quality services and growing acceptance of mobile health and e-health.
- The U.S. has the largest health care IT market worldwide, but the Asia-Pacific region is likely to grow the fastest due to growing government spending on health care services and infrastructure.
Dive Insight:
In the past, health IT was a department of an institution. Now, health care technology permeates the patient experience both within and outside health care organizations' walls. It's no surprise that health IT is a multibillion-dollar market globally. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it outpaced GIA's predictions. Health IT is now firmly part of the culture of the business generally.
