Dive Brief:
- Orlando-based Florida Hospital has set plans to build an apartment complex geared to its employees. The hospital will build the complex on the 170 acres of land it owns in College Park.
- The hospital is building the complex as part of a larger strategy to offer retail, office and recreation areas in what the hospital is calling Health Village.
- The complex is being built with the health of its employees in mind. For example, employees will be able to walk to the hospital campus from the complex.
Dive Insight:
Typically, hospitals with extra land not too far from their campus would opt for building medical office buildings on the site. This is a very interesting alternative. Not only are they offering something employees will see as a benefit, they're diversifying their real estate portfolio in what could be a profitable way. It looks like this project will be a win on several levels.
