Nonprofit health system CommonSpirit announced its new chief strategist Thursday. Effective June 5, Shapiro will be responsible for advancing market strategy, including growth and partnerships, for the Chicago-based group, which operates 138 hospitals across 22 states.
She will report to CommonSpirit CEO Wright Lassiter, who replaced former chief executive Lloyd Dean after his retirement last year.
At Trinity Health, Shapiro was responsible for executing the health system’s growth strategy, including mergers and acquisitions. She also led Trinity’s investing innovation program.
Shapiro has held roles executing strategic initiatives at the Ford Motor Company and the Chartis Group, a consulting firm. She also holds a master’s in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Shapiro will replace CommonSpirit’s former CSO, who retired last year, a CommonSpirit spokesperson told Healthcare Dive.
