Dive Brief:
- Community Health Systems has finalized an agreement to sell Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama to Prime Healthcare for an undisclosed amount. The Federal Trade Commission required CHS to divest two facilities in order to proceed with a $7.6-billion acquisition of Health Management Associates; Riverview is the second of these divestitures.
- Prime's purchase of the facility marks the company's entry into Alabama. Prime currently owns 30 facilities (including Riverview) in nine states, none of which were in the Southeast until now.
- The FTC must still approve the sale of the facility to Prime. The deal is expected to close early next year. The HMA deal was approved in January 2014.
