- Cambia Health Solutions has closed its startup, Wellero, which had a free mobile app to help patients track medical costs and pay what they owed based on their individual insurance benefits.
- Cambia has several other wholly-owned subsidiaries such as HealthSparq, which provides ways to help consumers access cost and quality information for healthcare providers, and SpendWell, a digital health e-commerce site where consumers can buy routine health services.
- Jared Ishkanian, Cambia spokesman, said the company plans to build on Wellero's tools and services. The app had 1,100 users as of last May.
Wellero's app also offered providers instant insurance validation and collection and had about 700 health plans on the platform - including Cambia's Regence BlueCross BlueShield plans.
In 2013 when the app was launched, Wellero's co-founder and president Hanny Freiwat in a company press release stated, "We expect this app to revolutionize the healthcare payment system by engaging the consumer in an educated dialogue with the provider."
