Dive Brief:
- Just weeks after the cyberattack that impacted 80 million Anthem members, the insurer has announced the completion of its acquisition of Simply Healthcare Holdings, a Miami-based managed care company.
- Anthem's plans with Simply Healthcare Holdings had been in the works long before the breach, coming about after six months of negotiations, the Miami Herald reports. Integration is slated to be finalized in 18 months.
- Anthem's historic breach took place Feb. 4 and has resulted in a wave of lawsuits across the US. The insurer says it is working with the FBI on the case, is mailing notifications to all those affected, and is offering identity theft repair and credit-monitoring services.
Dive Insight:
"For our members, this acquisition does not impact in any way on their member benefits," Simply Healthcare's Betsy Henao told the paper. "It's business as usual."
It also has the appearance of business as usual for Anthem, which is notable given the company's difficult position as it faces legal scrutiny and other fallout that could cost them billions, as Healthcare Dive has previously reported.
