Kohl, who brings more than 20 years of healthcare operations experience, will join Health Catalyst on Sept. 14, the Salt Lake City-based company announced Tuesday. He’ll be the company’s third CEO this year.
He succeeds Ben Albert, who assumed the role in February after longtime CEO Dan Burton retired. Albert will become Health Catalyst’s chief business officer and will step down from the board of directors effective Sept. 13.
Kohl most recently served as chief executive at Performant Healthcare, a company that helps payers ensure claims are billed correctly, from 2023 to 2026, according to his LinkedIn profile. He oversaw the sale of Performant to Machinify for $670 million last fall.
The leadership shuffle comes at a time when Health Catalyst is doubling down on artificial intelligence and working to strengthen its balance sheet.
In July, Health Catalyst sold Vitalware, its revenue cycle unit, to Med-Metrix for $147 million in order to focus on AI investments in its core platform.
Still, the sale dented Health Catalyst’s revenue, which dropped 13% during the second quarter compared with the prior year. Executives told investors that the company was working through revenue headwinds tied to the Vitalware sale and efforts to migrate customers onto different data systems.
