Name: Erica Rossitto
New title: Senior vice president and chief nurse executive, HCA Healthcare
Previous title: Senior vice president and assistant chief nurse executive, HCA Healthcare
Rossitto will take up the chief nurse role overseeing HCA’s more than 100,000 nurses effective Feb. 1, according to a press release from the Nashville, Tennessee-based health system.
She succeeds Sammie Mosier, the for-profit hospital giant’s chief nurse executive since 2021 who died in December. Mosier began her career as a nurse in 1996 and rose through the ranks at HCA, according to her obituary.
Rossitto has worked at HCA for 25 years, beginning her career as a nurse at HCA HealthONE Swedish in Englewood, Colorado, according to the health system.
She most recently served as assistant chief nurse executive, where she managed an operations support team that worked to improve emergency, trauma and surgical services as well as patient experience and leadership advocacy teams.
“Erica is an accomplished and respected leader who brings a deep understanding of nursing and clinical operations to this role,” Sam Hazen, HCA’s CEO, said in a statement. “I’m confident her demonstrated ability to unite teams, strengthen nursing leadership and drive innovation will continue to help support nurses and elevate patient care.”
HCA, one of the nation’s largest health systems with 191 hospitals and about 2,500 ambulatory care sites, is coming off a positive financial year, despite looming headwinds for the healthcare sector.
HCA raised its full-year outlook for revenue and profit after reporting third-quarter earnings in October, as newly approved Medicaid state supplemental payment programs boosted the system’s bottom line. The hospital operator’s revenue increased nearly 10% year over year to $19.2 billion, while net income rose more than 29% to $1.6 billion.
But providers are expected to face new financial pressures as Medicaid cuts and the expiration of more generous financial assistance for Affordable Care Act health plans increases the number of uninsured.
HCA will report fourth-quarter earnings on Jan. 27.
