- Schwartz will start her first day on Sept. 1, the same day that Nevin retires.
Dive Insight:
Nevin first joined the four-hospital health system in 2002 as chair of ChristianaCare’s department of family and community medicine. After that, she served in leadership roles including chief medical officer and executive director of the health system’s Wilmington campus before she was tapped for the top role in 2014.

ChristianaCare, which owns hospitals and other facilities in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania, said in a Monday statement that Nevin helped grow it into “one of the nation’s most respected health systems.”
The health system has grown its income in the 12 years since Nevin’s appointment. In 2014, the health system posted $152 million in net income, compared with $272 million at the end of its 2025 fiscal year ended June 30.
ChristianaCare has also expanded, acquiring five outpatient locations last year from Crozer Health after its owner, Prospect Medical Holdings, filed for bankruptcy. The health system also explored a merger with New Jersey-based Virtua Health last year before deciding to end talks in December.
Schwartz joined ChristianaCare in 2018 and has since served in a variety of strategy and legal roles. She joined the health system as its chief legal officer, before being appointed to chief strategy and legal officer in 2019, according to Schwartz’s LinkedIn profile.

Earlier this year, she was promoted to executive vice president, responsible for enterprise-wide strategy “with an emphasis on value‑based care, ambulatory growth, clinical integration, partnerships and regional expansion,” according to Schwartz’s leadership profile.
“It is an extraordinary privilege to be chosen to lead ChristianaCare and build upon the remarkable foundation Dr. Nevin has created,” Schwartz said in a press release. “This is an organization where purpose and performance are inseparable, and where caregivers bring our values to life in meaningful ways every day.”
