A California bill that would significantly tighten child vaccination requirements for school entry cleared its first major hurdle Thursday with bipartisan passage in the California Senate. Senate Bill 277 would remove the personal belief exemption that currently lets parents opt out of vaccinating their children as required to attend state licensed schools, daycares and nurseries in California. The bill leaves the medical exemption intact for children who have a medical reason they cannot be vaccinated.
