- Blue Cross Blue Shield Association have announced the creation of Blue Distinction Total Care, a network of patient-focused care programs.
- Available to national employers and their employees, the network currently consists of about 450 care-focused programs in 37 states.
- Total Care comprises nearly two-thirds of all BCBS patient-focused care programs and includes select ACOs and patient-centered medical homes.

According to a prepared statement from BCBSA, nearly 13 million BCBS members have access to care through Total Care and the number is expected to grow as more employees of multi-state employers participate. Total Care estimated savings were more than $840 million over traditional payment models on an annual basis, the organization noted.
Total Care currently includes nearly 118,000 medical professionals – over 59,000 primary care professionals and nearly 59,000 specialty clinicians.
Last month, BCBSA announced Blue Cross Blue Shield Axis to the public, a database that aggregates cost data from more than 2.3 billion healthcare procedures annually.
