Dive Brief:
- Two US senators have written a letter demanding that Anthem increase its pace in notifying members whose personal data was accessed in a cyberattack a month and a half ago.
- More than 50 million people—a majority of the estimated 70 million who were affected—still haven’t been notified, point out Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Patty Murray (D-WA) of the Senate's health committee.
- Anthem had stated Feb. 5 that it would require 10 to 14 days to pin down which members had been impacted and begin the notifications.
Dive Insight:
While Alexander and Murray demand that Anthem share a plan to "dramatically increase the pace of notification," Anthem said this week that it has accelerated notifications over the past few days, mailing about 2.4 million notices daily.
"We are working continuously to complete that process as soon as possible," the company said in a statement. Anthem also points toward a website and hotline it has set up to answer customers' questions in the meantime.
The senators have asked Anthem to submit a formal update by April 1.
