Boston, MA – Reboot Rx has released an online clinician resource that brings together the growing body of evidence on aspirin for patients with PI3K-altered colorectal cancer: https://www.rebootrx.org/colorectal/aspirin. The resource includes information on the recent ALASCCA randomized controlled trial, as well as evidence from other published clinical studies. This launch expands Reboot Rx’s efforts to provide clinicians with evidence-based information on promising new uses for existing generic drugs.

Patients with stage II–III colorectal cancer typically receive definitive treatment, such as surgery, but approximately 11–29% will experience recurrence. Aspirin is a widely available, low-cost medicine that has been studied extensively for potential anticancer effects. Its potential benefits for patients with PI3K-altered colorectal cancer have been examined, but this use is not included in aspirin’s FDA-approved labeling. The ALASCCA trial found that aspirin significantly reduced recurrence in patients with resected stage II–III colorectal cancer with PI3K pathway alterations.
“Providing clinicians with accessible tools to understand the potential role of aspirin in colorectal cancer is important as the evidence continues to evolve,” said Jeffrey Meyerhardt, MD, MPH, FASCO, Chief Clinical Research Officer and gastrointestinal medical oncologist at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. “The NCCN Guidelines recommend molecular testing to identify patients with colorectal cancer whose tumors have PI3K pathway alterations. Clinicians need to be aware of the evidence and understand which patients may benefit. Making this information more accessible can help address barriers to appropriate use of aspirin in patients with colorectal cancer.”

It covers 19 published studies, including randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses, and observational studies. Detailed study summaries, references, and supporting materials are available and will be updated as new information emerges.
