Annabelle M. de St. Maurice, MD, MPH, a noted pediatrician with a focus on infectious disease, serves on the panel of leading medical experts of MerckManuals.com.
Dr. de St. Maurice is the unit director for the Syndromic Surveillance and Respiratory and Enteric Viral Surveillance Team at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH). She is also an associate professor of pediatrics in the division of infectious diseases at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is the author of the Infections in Neonates and Common Viral Infections in Infants and Children chapters of the Merck Manuals, which are informed by her extensive experience with pediatric infectious disease.
Dr. de St. Maurice’s research and clinical interests focus on mitigating the spread and severity of infectious diseases through vaccines and infection control practices. She has studied the impact of pneumococcal vaccine on invasive pneumococcal disease rates, risk factors for hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, the epidemiology of Rift Valley fever disease, and the long-term effects on survivors of Ebola.
Dr. de St. Maurice earned her MD from the University of Rochester in 2008, followed by a pediatrics residency at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. She then went to Vanderbilt University where she completed a pediatric infectious disease fellowship and earned a Masters in Public Health. After fellowship, Dr. de St. Maurice joined the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the CDC where she studied the epidemiology of viral hemorrhagic fevers.
