Geriatrician Michael Wasserman, MD, a nationally recognized expert in the care of older adults, is serving on the editorial board for MerckManuals.com, an authoritative medical reference.
In his role for the Merck Manuals, Dr. Wasserman collaborates with the other board members to review the online content for accuracy and relevance.
Dr. Wasserman has been an advocate for older adults over the course of a career that has spanned clinical care to corporate management. He is currently on the board of the California Association of Long Term Care Medicine. He previously served as chief executive officer overseeing the largest nursing home chain in California. In 1989, Dr. Wasserman was the lead author of an article in Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, the findings of which are part of the McGeer Criteria, used widely in nursing homes to evaluate residents for infections. He is editor-in-chief of the textbook Geriatric Medicine: A Person Centered Evidence Based Approach (Springer, 2023) and the author of Primary Care for Older
Adults: Models and Challenges (Springer, 2017) and The Business of Geriatrics
(Springer 2016).
Dr. Wasserman earned his medical degree from the University of Texas, Medical Branch in 1985, followed by an internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a geriatric medicine fellowship at UCLA.
