February 2026 – Renowned pediatrician Alicia R. Pekarsky, MD, FAAP, is serving on the editorial board for MerckManuals.com, an authoritative medical reference.
In her role for the Merck Manuals, Dr. Pekarsky collaborates with the other board members to review the online content for accuracy and relevance.
Dr. Pekarsky is an associate professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, in Syracuse, NY, as well as the director of the Department of Pediatrics' Child Abuse Pediatrics Division. She is also co-medical director of the McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Center, where she provides medical evaluations for suspected victims of child maltreatment, and program director for the Upstate Child Abuse Pediatrics fellowship.
Dr. Pekarsky earned her medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2002. After completing a residency in pediatrics at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, she returned to Upstate where she completed a three-year fellowship in child abuse pediatrics. Soon after, Dr. Pekarsky became one of the first physicians in the country to be certified as a child abuse pediatrician by the American Board of Pediatrics.
