eHealth* has the highest customer satisfaction among US health insurance brands, according to a new YouGov report.
Overall, 52% of Americans, and 61% aged 18-29, said they have a hard time understanding what their health insurance covers.
As the Open Enrollment deadline approaches, YouGov’s US health insurance rankings 2024 uncovers America's top health insurance brands, looking at buzz, overall impression, consideration, purchase intent and customer satisfaction, with additional analyses of key customer segments. The report also digs into what matters most to Americans when choosing coverage and what types of claims they are filing.
The report finds that:
- eHealth has the highest net satisfaction score (70.8), followed by AARP Medicare Plans from UnitedHealthcare (61.7), Humana (43.9), and Kaiser Permanente (39.5)
- Blue Shield of California has seen the greatest improvement in net satisfaction since 2023, increasing by 12.1 points
- Blue Cross Blue Shield is the most considered health insurance brand, with 23.9% of Americans who have private insurance plans considering it
- Among Americans who have Affordable Care Act plans, price and premiums are the top factors considered when selecting a plan (76% consider this)
- 70% of Americans, and 77% aged 18 to 29, believe that the Federal Government should make sure everyone has health insurance
“Health insurance can be a confusing topic, and our surveys prove that to be the case with the majority of Americans telling us that they don’t fully understand their coverage,” said Todd Dupey, SVP at YouGov. “This lack of understanding of coverage can easily lead to dissatisfied customers, which makes the 70.8 net satisfaction score that eHealth has even more impressive.”
Drawing data from YouGov’s Financial Services CategoryView, combined with insights from YouGov Profiles and YouGov BrandIndex, the report also examines which brands are leading in buzz, and purchase intent. It further highlights those with the greatest year-over-year improvements in customer perception.
