RenalWorks Pte Ltd, a Singaporean software provider for hemodialysis clinics, has partnered with Andersen to enhance its digital platform. Their collaboration aims to address challenges in dialysis clinics and improve patient care through innovative technology solutions.
The increasing prevalence of chronic kidney disease in Asia, with a growth rate exceeding 10% in some countries, has strained hospitals and dialysis clinics. To address these challenges and enhance patient care, RenalWorks aimed for a significant software upgrade. The company identified inefficiencies in its old dialysis information system, including a lack of scalability, a legacy tech stack, data synchronization issues, and suboptimal usability. Having faced these challenges, RenalWorks opted to develop a new digital product instead of refactoring the existing one.
The management of RenalWorks recognized the social and humanitarian impact they could make by leveraging technology to create a highly usable and cost-effective electronic solution for dialysis clinics. The company chose Andersen, a seasoned healthcare software developer, as its partner.
A new white-label, cloud-based SaaS solution, known as RenalGenie, includes clinical and administrative management systems to streamline operations in dialysis clinics. To ensure its top performance, RenalWorks requested the development of features such as advanced patient health record management, easy but comprehensive and accurate dialysis process documentation, staff workload management functionality, user roles' configuration, laboratory test scheduling, treatment plan tracking, notifications for procedures and updates, seamless system configuration across clinic networks, and more.
Key to the project's success was the significant involvement of Jammie Mathews, Director at RenalWorks, who served as the Product Owner, bringing her extensive background in hemodialysis, encompassing both clinical and administrative aspects. Andersen's professionals, spanning business analysis, design, development, testing, and compliance, also played a vital role in optimizing usability and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Andersen assembled a team where each member made a unique contribution. Business Analyst Nadzeya Susliankova, with an MD background, assisted in meticulous requirements gathering. UI/UX designer Oleksandr Nosach leveraged his cross-domain experience to achieve optimal system usability. Additionally, Project Manager Natallia Bialevich, a physician by education, and Delivery Manager Andrey Auramenka ensured a two-tier model of project governance. In this model, one specialist oversaw technological processes, while the other managed human resources and provided timely support to resolve bottlenecks. Dedication, understanding of the project's importance, effective communication, a strong focus on providing a top-notch user experience, and team spirit were crucial in overcoming challenges and achieving project goals.
By leveraging Java, ReactJS, and AWS, Andersen's developers created a scalable and future-proof solution. The tech stack, chosen for its maturity, rich features, and compliance with healthcare standards, facilitated the development of a high-performance system. Andersen navigated RenalWorks through intricate certification audits, aiding the client in acquiring ISO 9001.
RenalGenie is currently used in several clinics, with plans for expansion to the Philippines, and Indonesia. RenalWorks aims to make the software available in over 200 dialysis centers across Southeast Asia by the end of 2025. Ongoing enhancements, including an offline mode, peritoneal dialysis management, and inventory control, are planned to meet evolving needs.
RenalWorks and Andersen share a common vision that prioritizes superior patient experiences and aims to transform nephrology clinics. As RenalGenie expands in the future, it will contribute to setting new standards for healthcare IT systems by focusing on user needs.
