Northdoor plc, and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust are thrilled to announce that their shared healthcare analytics platform project has been shortlisted as a finalist for Best Healthcare Analytics Project for the NHS at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2023.
The national healthcare sector faced innumerable pressures over the past 12 months – yet the standard and overriding positivity of the partnerships this year highlight the enduring dedication to improving patient outcomes.
Recognising and honouring effective partnerships
The HSJ Partnership Awards recognise and honour the most effective partnerships, innovative projects and collaborations in the UK health system. The prestigious award programme, now in its sixth year, is a celebration of success stories and a platform to shape the future of our new integrated health and care system.
The judging panel comprised a diverse range of highly regarded figures across the NHS and wider healthcare sector. To be shortlisted as a finalist for these awards, despite tough competition from a pool of brilliant applications, is a mark of real achievement for Northdoor and Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The partnership has been selected based on their diligence, ambition, and the positive impact that the project has had on both practitioners and patients within the healthcare industry.
About the project:
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) wanted to modernise their business intelligence (BI) reporting capability to improve time to insight, standardise and automate report generation, allow for BI self-service, and improve data security. In addition, there was a requirement to be able to share this new analytics platform with local NHS partner organisations to reduce costs.
MTW commissioned Northdoor to design and implement a shared Microsoft Power BI P1 Premium environment and to design and develop a range of near-real-time reports and dashboards. These allow the MTW BI team to deliver faster, more accurate insights to support the management of hospital services and to provide assurance around the quality and safety of patient services, ultimately resulting in a better patient experience. Through a shorter time to insight, clinicians, administrative staff and senior managers can understand changing demand patterns faster than before, helping them enhance patient services.
James Jarvis, Assistant Director of Business Intelligence at Maidstone and Tunbridge Well NHS Trust, said,
“We are extremely proud of this solution, which helps keep critical systems up and running and delivers vital information to support the management of hospital services and to provide assurance around the quality and safety of patient services”.

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Best Healthcare Analytics Project for the NHS by the Health Service Journal, recognising the collaborative efforts and dedication of our and the MTW NHS Analytics and Business Intelligence team to successfully implement the shared healthcare analytics platform.
By implementing this BI solution, the Trust and other local NHS partners can gain timely and accurate insight that helps enable better patient services and care. Indeed, these teams are committed to delivering improved patient outcomes, and to be chosen among the other incredible nominees is a wonderful achievement. This nomination has been a tremendous boost which I am sure will bolster our continued efforts for improvement.”
James Cherry, CTO at Northdoor plc, commented,
“We work with organisations across the private and public sectors and understand data's crucial role in everyday life. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the NHS. The nature of the data generated by NHS Trusts can make a huge difference to frontline services, so ensuring that it is accurate and timely is really important. Our relationship with Microsoft means that we have implemented and managed its Power BI solutions and know just how effective it can be, and how it could make a huge difference to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. Working with Microsoft and the client meant that we could quickly prove its effectiveness and potential value to clinicians, admin staff and patients. Being shortlisted for this Partnership award is fantastic as it reflects the great relationships we have with all those we work with, and we look forward to the event in March.”
