HealtHIE Nevada Receives Official State Certification
Nevada Department of Health and Human Services acknowledges HIE’s ability to uphold financial, operational sustainability
LAS VEGAS – HealtHIE Nevada, a statewide health information exchange (HIE) that offers real-time, secure exchange of clinical patient data, recently met requirements under Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) § 439.588 and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) § 439.578, qualifying it to operate within the state of Nevada.
The certification authorized by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) demonstrates the HIE’s financial and operational sustainability, adherence to privacy, security and patient consent standards and capacity for interoperability with other health information exchanges.
“Receiving this validation by the DHHS means we can build further trust within our current partner base, as well as with other Nevada health organizations that will benefit from easy and secure access to patient medical records,” said Michael Gagnon, executive director of HealtHIE Nevada. “As the only HIE currently in operation in Nevada, we’re looking forward to working further with the state to expand our operations to best serve the wider healthcare community.”
Among multiple accreditations obtained in 2018, HealtHIE Nevada recently underwent a comprehensive third-party review by the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, scoring high marks in data security and privacy. Receiving a near-perfect rating, the HIE achieved excellence in health data processing and transactions, and compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations.
HealtHIE Nevada currently partners with more than 70 organizations across the state, including Dignity Health, Renown Health, Valley Health System, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. It continues to grow HIE participants, safely and securely managing clinical patient data between physician offices, acute care hospitals, diagnostic services and other healthcare providers in Nevada.
