HealtHIE Nevada Achieves EHNAC Health Information Exchange Accreditation
Nevada’s only statewide health information exchange receives near-perfect rating in data security and privacy certification
LAS VEGAS – HealtHIE Nevada, a statewide health information exchange that offers real-time, secure exchange of clinical patient data, announced it has achieved full accreditation with the Health Information Exchange Accreditation Program (HIEAP) from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC). EHNAC’s HIEAP accreditation recognizes excellence in health data processing and transactions, and ensures compliance with industry-established standards and HIPAA regulations.
“Security and privacy are extremely important for operating a health information exchange and in building trust with our participants and patients,” says Michael Gagnon, executive director of HealtHIE Nevada. “We are thrilled to report that we scored 97 out of a possible 100 points on our assessment which is a testament to the dedication and skills of our entire team.”
Through EHNAC’s comprehensive third-party review, HealtHIE Nevada was evaluated in areas of privacy and security, technical performance, business practices and organizational resources as it relates to health information exchange (HIE) policies and procedures. In addition, EHNAC reviewed the organization’s process of managing and transferring protected health information and determined that the organization meets or exceeds all EHNAC criteria and industry standards. Through completion of the rigorous accreditation process, the organization demonstrates to its constituents, adherence to strict standards and participation in the comprehensive, objective evaluation of its business.
“The amount of protected health information (PHI) and data exchanged electronically within and between healthcare organizations is undoubtedly increasing. As such, there has become a heightened need for all organizations touching this data to have the utmost privacy, security and safeguard procedures in place,” said Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC. “Having met the highest standard for privacy and security as it relates to consent, authorization, authentication, access and audit procedures throughout the HIE entity, with its EHNAC HIEAP designation, customers and business partners can have confidence and trust in HealtHIE Nevada’s ability to manage their data with integrity and effectiveness.”
HealtHIE Nevada is partnered with more than 70 organizations including Dignity Health, Renown Health, Valley Health System, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. It continues to grow health information exchange participants, and safely and securely manage clinical patient data.
