Livingston, NJ – Saint Barnabas Medical Center, a flagship of RWJBarnabas Health is proud to announce the enormous strides made within one year by implementing a rigorous Clinical Excellence and Effectiveness (CE2) program. Paul Yodice, MD, Chairman of Medicine and Director of the CE2 program, has led his team to accomplishments that include decreasing narcotics use for bariatric and gynecologic oncology surgery patients by up to 40% and halving the sepsis mortality rate.
CE2 has achieved this success by removing barriers and overcoming variation. He and his team have provided support in the form of education and resources to individual physicians, clinicians and practices with the ultimate goal of creating a fully uniform practice. The CE2 team has also implemented a streamlined Electronic Medical Records pathway system, leading to more efficient action that saves patient lives.
“Communication across the hospitals has been a crucial factor in the success of our Clinical Excellence and Effectiveness program,” said Dr. Yodice. “Our goal is to find and implement the very best evidenced-based care delivery protocols. Through the utilization of information technology coupled with multidisciplinary cooperation and collaboration, we are able to identify, apply and track these best practices more efficiently than ever before.”
Dr. Yodice and his CE2 team are continuing to identify the biggest opportunities for improvement, adopting the most efficient evidence-based practices for Saint Barnabas Medical Center and utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach to facilitating implementation across many clinical disciplines. They anticipate the replication of this program to roll out at other hospitals throughout the RWJBarnabas Health System.
