Dive Brief:
- ZOOM+ Performance Health Insurance, founded in 2006 in Portland, OR, has announced the opening of ZOOM+Super in Portland, a new alternative to emergency care.
-
The company says this "super clinic" can treat 80% of the conditions that prompt visits to hospital ERs in a fraction of the time and at one-tenth of the cost.
- ZOOM+Super is part of the company's strategy to grow from a limited, on-demand healthcare service to a complete health system with built-in insurance.
Dive Insight:
Zoom+ aims to reduce unnecessary healthcare spending by introducing a clinic that can treat many of the top problems that drive people to ERs, including sprains and strains, abdominal pain, superficial injury and contusion, back pain and headache. The format "closes the gap between urgent care and the ER," says Dave Sanders, M.D., co-founder and CEO of ZOOM+.
Patients use their phone to schedule a room that includes wifi, TV, and a whiteboard where their doctor will outline their treatment plan. The company says ZOOM+Super will be able to treat people within about sixty minutes.
Part of the deal is price transparency. A complete visit that includes treatment, imaging (CT, X-ray and Ultrasound), labs and on-site medications is $299 via self-pay, the company says, or $0-$35 for ZOOM+ Performance Health Insurance members. The clinic does accept other insurance plans.
