Dive Brief:
- Hospitals trying to strengthen their long-term ties with women should note that, according to a new report, women value care quality and outcomes over treatment costs.
- According to Healthgrades' survey of 1,116 women of varying ages and demographics, women consider hospital or doctor quality more important than whether insurance covers a procedure's costs and they value quality outcome of a surgery more than out-of-pocket costs or distance to the provider.
- Typically, women consult three or more sources when evaluating or selecting their providers, Healthgrades' survey also found.
Dive Insight:
Nothing in Healthgrades' survey seems too surprising. Healthgrades said that hospitals, to develop and sustain lifelong relationships with women in their communities, must use high quality as the central theme in communicating with them. But it cautioned that women cannot be grouped together and expected to behave collectively. Nothing too surprising in that, either.
