Dive Brief:
-
According to a recent Gallup poll, the percentage of uninsured Americans has fallen to 16% so far this quarter, compared with 17.1% in the fourth quarter of 2013.
-
Gallup's findings came from conducting 19,000 interviews conducted from January 2 to February 10.
-
The percentage of uninsured 26 to 34-year-olds (the group with the highest uninsured rate since 2011) has fallen to 25.7%, compared with 29.9% roughly a year ago.
Dive Insight:
These results are what one might call a mixed blessing. The jump in enrollment among younger adults is welcome news, but a mere 1% drop in the uninsured population isn't exactly cause for a party. The Obama administration is going to have to look at factors which are preventing older adults from signing up for ACA plans.
