Name: Darryl Elmouchi
Previous title: Chief operating officer, Corewell Health
New title: Chief operating officer, Providence

Elmouchi will be Renton, Washington-based Providence’s next COO as the nonprofit health system reshuffles its executive team.
Elmouchi is joining the team effective Jan. 2, according to a Tuesday news release. He is replacing Erik Wexler, who will take on the title of CEO beginning in 2025 following the retirement of current chief executive Rod Hochman.
Elmouchi comes to Providence from 21-hospital system Corewell Health, where he most recently served as COO.
Part of Elmouchi’s mandate is overseeing “performance improvement initiatives” across the 51-hospital system. Providence has been focused on operational efficiency since 2022, and taken steps to streamline its executive team and improve capacity management. However, the operator has a negative long-term credit outlook, according to Fitch Ratings.
Still, there are some signs of progress. Providence logged a net operating income of $53 million for the first six months of 2024 after years of posting losses.
The provider is expected to release third quarter earnings next week.
