PeaceHealth will reduce its workforce by 1% and freeze nonclinical hiring through the end of the year, a spokesperson said Tuesday.
“After months of discernment, financial analysis and a thorough review of the dynamic healthcare market, we are making a 1% reduction in our workforce, including eliminating some caregiver roles and closing some open positions,” a spokesperson for PeaceHealth said in a statement.
The health system, which operates in Washington, Oregon and Alaska, employs 16,000 workers, according to its website. PeaceHealth offered few details about which roles would be impacted or when cuts would go into effect. The hiring freeze does not apply to open clinical roles, a spokesperson said.
The health system last cut roles in 2023, according to a report from The Bellingham Herald. At the time, about 250 roles were impacted.
PeaceHealth joins a growing number of health systems that have opted to cut jobs amid financial and regulatory uncertainty.
NewYork-Presbyterian Health System, University of New Mexico Hospital, Penn Medicine, Yale New Haven Health, Mass General Brigham, Jefferson Health and Lehigh Valley Health Network have all let workers go or consolidated their leadership teams in recent months, citing concerns about growing headwinds and financial challenges.
