Name: Sandeep Dadlani
Previous title: Executive vice president and chief digital and technology officer, UnitedHealth
New title: CEO, Optum Insight
Dadlani started as chief executive of Optum Insight last week, the executive announced in a LinkedIn post saying he’s “honored and privileged” to step into the role. Dadlani first joined UnitedHealth in 2022 as the healthcare behemoth’s chief digital and technology officer. But now, the executive is replacing Dhivya Suryadevara as Optum Insight’s CEO.
It’s not clear why Suryadevara, who was just appointed in May, is leaving the post, or whether she’ll be staying on at Optum. (Suryadevara is also the CEO of Optum Financial, UnitedHealth’s financial services division.) An Optum spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment on Suryadevara’s departure, and the executive has yet to update her LinkedIn.
Optum Insight is UnitedHealth’s data and analytics division. It includes health IT firm Change Healthcare, which was hit with a massive cyberattack early last year that affected the data of some 190 million Americans.
Optum Insight has eaten billions of dollars in response costs, not to mention hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenue. The division posted $3.1 billion in earnings from operations in 2024, down from the year prior due to cyberattack-related costs.
Still, Optum Insight boasts the highest operating margin of any of UnitedHealth’s divisions at 16.5%.
“As Optum Insight continues its journey of introducing innovative, technology-enabled solutions to both payers and providers, Sandeep Dadlani is uniquely qualified to lead this business into its next evolutionary chapter,” an Optum spokesperson said regarding Dadlani’s appointment. “His expertise in tech-enabled product development and using AI-first approaches will help accelerate growth in a business that continues to have huge potential to deliver tremendous value to the overall health care system.”
Dadlani stressed his focus on artificial intelligence in his LinkedIn post, writing that “AI is the most important technology of our lifetime” and “healthcare is the most important use case.”
“I believe we have the brightest minds and best AI talent to seize this pivotal moment,” Dadlani wrote.
Dadlani’s appointment comes as UnitedHealth continues to rejigger its executive bench this year. Starting at the top, he company’s board brought back former CEO Stephen Hemsley to replace embattled CEO Andrew Witty in May. Since then, Hemsley has named a new chief financial executive and replaced leaders at care delivery unit Optum Health and payer arm UnitedHealthcare.
