US News uses data from almost 5,000 hospitals nationwide and survey results from more than 140,000 physicians to develop its annual "Best Hospitals" list. Factors that are considered in the rankings include death rates, patient safety and hospital reputation.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was rated No. 1 in cancer care. The Cleveland clinic took the No. 1 spot for cardiology and heart surgery and the Mayo Clinic was ranked No. 1 in several categories, including gastroenterology, neurology and neurosurgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gynecology and geriatrics. The Hospital for Special Surgery took the top spot for orthopedics.
