House votes to immobilize Planned Parenthood funding
- On Friday, the House voted 241-187 to halt federal funding for Planned Parenthood, reports The Hill.
- In a recent report, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated such an action would reduce direct spending of $235 million from 2016 to 2025.
- Planned Parenthood receives about $450 million in federal funds annually, most being Medicaid reimbursements, reports Modern Healthcare.
The bill was introduced by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN).
Varying news outlets have suggested and stated such an action by the House could help kick off a government shutdown.
Time will tell.
