Name: Michael Browning
Previous title: Executive vice president and chief financial officer, OhioHealth
New title: Senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, CommonSpirit Health

Browning will join Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health effective Jan. 2, 2026, according to a Monday news release.
He will oversee financial operations for the nonprofit health system’s 138-hospital portfolio, including financial strategy, planning, accounting, treasury, reimbursement, revenue cycle and investor relations.
Browning joins CommonSpirit from OhioHealth, where he served as executive vice president and CFO. Prior to that role, Browning held leadership positions at ProMedica Health System, WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Parkview Health and McLeod Health.
The executive will replace Daniel Morissette, who is retiring at the end of this month after serving CommonSpirit and its predecessor organization, Dignity Health, for nearly a decade.
CommonSpirit CEO Wright Lassiter III said the system is thrilled to have Browning aboard.
“He is a seasoned financial leader with a profound understanding of complex healthcare systems and a proven track record of driving financial strength and strategic growth,” Lassiter said in a news release. “His expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we work to navigate a complex and evolving healthcare landscape and deliver on our mission.”
Browning joins as CommonSpirit looks to turnaround its financial performance, following years of operating losses. Earlier this month, top executives met with investors to announce Project Impact, a multiyear initiative designed to rein in expenses and identify innovative opportunities for revenue growth.
