- With the HITECH Act and PPACA in place, CIOs are often in charge of very large budgets, big teams, and implementations that could run hundreds of millions of dollars. Most CIOs surveyed say their workload has increased by 50%, according to the report by SSI-Search.
- The survey, which reached out to roughly 200 health care CIOs, concluded that the average annual CIO compensation was $286,000, with annual raises of 10% or less over the past four years, Fierce Health IT reports.
Dive Insight:
As if their jobs weren't stressful enough before the demand to buy and install an EMR came about, their workload is even higher now. In a situation like this, CIOs are clearly targets for burnout. Perhaps, now that the initial phase of EMR installs is complete in many hospitals, CIOs can breathe a brief sigh of relief before they plunge into the next set of problems.
