Dive Brief:
- Cincinatti Children's Hospital Medical Center, the largest hospital in Cincinnati, has joined a coalition to urge voters to reject a constitutional ammendment to legalize marijuana use in Ohio.
- The issue, which is on the Nov. 3 ballot, is being driven by the pro-marijuana group ResponsibleOhio.
- The names of the other coalition members have not yet been released.
Dive Insight:
ResponsibleOhio wants the state to legalize marijuana for personal use in people over the age of 21 and for medical use in people of any age. Children would need parental permission in order to get a perscription.
“Our main concern is that kids could inadvertently consume edible products infused with marijuana,” Cincinnati Children’s spokesman Jim Feuer told the Cincinnati Business Courier.
The coalition opposing the ammendment is being organized by state Rep. Mike Curtin. Feuer said he didn’t yet know the name of the coalition or who its other members would be other than the five other Ohio children's hospitals, which are in Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Akron and Toledo.
