On May 10, nearly 80 professionals from the healthcare community in Southwest Michigan gathered to discuss the latest and greatest advancements in health information exchange, and the positive impact that technology can have in supporting the transition to value-based care across the continuum.
The event, hosted by Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC) included an interactive panel discussion on healthcare policy with senior Michigan Senate staffers Trisha Nesbitt (Schuitmaker, R-26th District) and Stephanie Bogema (O’Brien, R-20th District), as well as Sara Wurfel, VP of Public Affairs for Truscott Rossman, and former Press Secretary for Governor Rick Snyder. Additional speakers featured throughout the day included Dr. Evelyn Clingerman of the Grand Valley State Univerity Wesorick Center for Healthcare Transformation, leading healthcare change leadership expert, Kelly Whittle, and Barry Brown, Executive Director of Answer Health on Demand, a Michigan based Telehealth Start-Up.
In reacting to his experience as a Southwest Summit attendee, Robert Karam, Administrator at Paragon Health, PC, said “The Summit presentations and discussions were relevant and informative. I now know more about how health information exchange can connect Paragon Health to other healthcare organizations so that we can better take care of patients. The event exceeded my expectations”.
The Southwest Summit was the first of six events being held across the state between May and October. Together, these events make up the GLHC 2017 Summit Series. The theme of the series is “Connected-Community Impact”, and focuses on the many ways REAL healthcare reform is happening in Michigan where it matters most – at the point of care. The locations and dates for the remaining 2017 Summit Series events are: Cadillac on June 13th, Detroit on August 15th, Lansing on August 22nd, Flint on September 14th and Grand Rapids on October 4th.
