Great Lakes Health Connect (GLHC), the leading Health Information Exchange service provider in Michigan, today announced that their “Health Connect” environment and supporting infrastructure has earned Certified Status for information security by the Health Information Trust (HITRUST) Alliance. The HITRUST CSF Certified Status demonstrates that the GLHC Health Connect environment meets key regulations and requirements for protecting and securing sensitive private healthcare information.
“Maintaining the security of the confidential health data that we manage at GLHC is a core value of our organization, and of critical importance to the providers and patients we serve”, said Doug Dietzman, Executive Director of GLHC. “The HITRUST CSF is widely regarded as the gold-standard for health IT security and regulatory compliance. Achieving HITRUST CSF Certified Status is affirmation of the secure posture we maintain for our solutions and business operations. I am grateful to our entire team for their diligent commitment to securing our customer’s critical health data.”
HITRUST CSF Certified status indicates that the organization’s Health Connect system has met industry-defined requirements and is appropriately managing risk, and places GLHC in an elite group of organizations worldwide that have earned this certification. By including federal and state regulations, standards and frameworks, and incorporating a risk-based approach, the HITRUST CSF helps organizations address these challenges through a comprehensive and flexible framework of prescriptive and scalable security controls.
“HITRUST has been working with the industry to ensure the appropriate information protection requirements are met when sensitive health information is accessed or stored in a cloud environment. By taking the steps necessary to obtain HITRUST CSF Certified status, Great Lakes Health Connect is distinguished as an organization that people can count on to keep their information safe,” said Ken Vander Wal, Chief Compliance Officer, HITRUST.
