Dive Brief:
- Hospitals across the U.S. are bulking up with new facilities and services hoping to serve an aging population.
- For example, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has set plans for a $90 million expansion project to serve the aging population in its catchment area.
- One Ohio example is at Mt. Carmel St. Anne in Westerville, where the hospital is building a new main entrance featuring a concierge desk, a café and 40 foot stone fireplace, along with a new patient tower with 60 beds and an integrated cardiovascular center, a $120 million project all told.
Dive Insight:
While hospitals are struggling with new reimbursement models, and in some cases less pay, some are also in the fortunate position of being situated in an area where there's room for growth. Still, my question is this: if hospitals are investing all of their capital dollars in build outs, where will the money come from to build up relationships with ACOs in maintaining their IT infrastructure? I guess time will tell on this one.
