The three Optum business lines: OptumRx provides pharmacy benefits management services to 14 million Americans and had the fastest growth rate out of the three lines last year at 35%. OptumHealth provides health and wellness services to 61 million enrollees and one of the fastest growing businesses for UnitedHealth, according to Trefis, adding $8 billion in revenues in the first nine months of 2014. Optuminsight provides software and information services to hospitals and physicians. Revenues for this unit was up 6% to $3.7 billion last year.
UnitedHealth has increased investments in OptumHealth and its acquisition of MedSynergies, a healthcare service provider, added close to 93,000 providers. Trefis anticipates Optum to continue to grow, spurred by growth in private health insurance and Medicare.
