Dive Brief:
- The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) has just released the results of its latest ICD-10 readiness survey, and the results don't look good for providers or vendors.
- Although the delays in ICD-10 implementation have resulted in more preparation time, they appear to have also had a negative impact on ICD-10 readiness.
- The survey results showed that vendor readiness has remained unchanged since last August and many providers are actually losing ground.
Dive Insight:
Around two-thirds of providers indicated they had slowed or halted their ICD-10 efforts as a result of the most recent delay. Approximately 50% said "uncertainty over future delays" had prevented them from making more progress. Vendors also pointed to potential additional delays as a reason for not making more progress, as well as customer readiness and other competing priorities. "Unless all industry segments make a dedicated effort to continue to move forward with their implementation efforts, there will be significant disruption on Oct. 1, 2015," Jim Daley, past chair of WEDI wrote in a recent letter to HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
