Under the terms of the contract, staff from Brigham and Women's will act as advisors on developing and structuring women's health programs. They will also travel to Shanghai to train doctors and other clinical personnel.
“This is part of our strategic decision to expand the footprint and the influence of the Brigham outside New England,” Steven Thompson, chief business development officer, told The Boston Globe. “To achieve its mission, it needs that larger footprint.”
This is just one of several international projects undertaken by Partners over the last decade in order to control costs and limit growth at home. The projects, conducted in China, India, the Middle East and other international markets, are bringing in between $10 million and $20 million annually.
