Dive Insight:
Brown's departure completes the end of an era at Partners in which he supported Gottlieb through a time of controversial expansion.
The new CEO, Dr. David Torchiana, has told the media that the company is stepping back to re-examine its expansion efforts after several acquisitions were blocked earlier this year due to antitrust concerns.
Brown told the Boston Globe this is the right time for him to leave. "I never thought I'd be contemplating a third career," he told the paper. "I'm really looking forward to it."
Deborah Colton of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization is slated to replace Brown as chief of staff.
