Dive Brief:
- The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has terminated certification for two versions of an EHR, which means it can no longer be used by providers to attest to meaningful use incentive programs.
- The certification of two versions for SkyCare 4.2, which was developed by Platinum Health Information Systems, was revoked due to failure by the company to participate in routine surveillance by the ONC Authorized Certification Body, Infogard Laboratories.
- ONC stated InfoGard made "good faith efforts" to initiate surveillance activities for SkyCare, but PHIS was unresponsive.
Dive Insight:
The decision leaves 48 eligible professionals who attested to Stage 1 meaningful use with SkyCare in a difficult position. Even though their technology was certified when they attested, they will have to switch to another certified EHR in order to go on with the MU program, the ONC says.
As Healthcare IT News notes, SkyCare's website was inactive and numerous uncorroborated complaints have been lodged against the EHR at RipOffReport.com.
Providers still using SkyCare can apply for a hardship exception so they won't face Medicare payment adjustments during their transition to new technology.
