Dive Brief:
- Four years out from its passage, the ACA is unpopular with the majority of Americans, a Pew Research poll finds.
- Pew, which surveyed 3,335 adults from February 27 to March 16, found that 53% said they don't approve of the law, while 41% supported it.
- Of those who oppose the law, 30% still think elected officials should try to make the measure work as well as it can, while 19% want legislators to make the law fail.
Dive Insight:
Despite having four years to work some things out, the topic of the ACA is still a politically incendiary one, with feelings about the law divided starkly along political lines. (According to Pew, 72% of Democrats approve of the law while only 8% of Republicans do.) At this point, the Obama administration isn't going to win over the ACA's opponents, so it seems that the only thing to do is to trudge forward and do what needs to be done to meet enrollment goals.
