Dive Insight:
Phoebe Sumter Medical Center was an overwhelmingly popular entry in the contest, likely due in part to its comeback story. The former Sumter Regional Hospital was destroyed in a 2007 tornado that struck Americus, and completed a $21.5-million rebuild in 2011.
Its features include an eco-friendly rooftop garden; natural lighting; private patient rooms; and HCAHPS scores that surpass national standards for quietness and cleanliness.
Soliant reports that this year's contest broke two records: the most votes ever received in total and the most votes ever received by a single hospital in the contest (95,426).
Homestead Hospital, Forest Park Medical Center – San Antonio, Riverside Regional Medical Center, HealthPark Medical Center, St. Anthony Regional Hospital & Nursing Home, Forest Park Medical Center - Southlake, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Doctors Memorial Hospital and Mercy Health West Hospital rounded out the top 10.
