Dive Brief:
- A health insurance company in Michigan has decided that it pays to provide its members with incentive to shop around and compare prices for medical procedures.
-
Priority Health announced Monday it will reward those who use the company's cost-estimating tool to select a fair-priced medical procedure.
- Members who do so may be eligible to receive a Visa gift card worth between $50 and $200 through Priority Health's rewards program.
Dive Insight:
Considering that the cost for a medical procedure can vary by thousands of dollars at different facilities, even within the same geographical region, it's logical to get enrollees invested in comparing prices and making an informed choice.
“These are very expensive procedures and providing them $200 back on a $4,000 procedure just makes good business sense,” Priority Health chief marketing officer Joan Budden told 24 Hour News 8.
