Dive Brief:
- Nearly 70% of surveyed healthcare leaders say that their clinicians using mobile technology review patient data, according to a new study from HIMSS Analytics announced at the HIMSS 14 show.
- However, only 22% of respondents said that much of the data collected by mobile devices was integrated with their organization's EMR.
- Meanwhile, HIMSS has released its annual Nursing Informatics Workforce Survey which has found that the field has grown over the past few years and that many nursing informatics specialists have post-graduate degrees.
Dive Insight:
Neither of the conclusions drawn by the HIMSS studies are a surprise. However, it's a particularly noteworthy finding that only 22% of mobile data makes it into an EMR. Feeding the mobile data into EMRs is going to be perhaps the biggest leap mobile health needs to address before it offers the full clinical benefits it has the potential to offer.
