- The National Program Office has announced it is searching for a pilot program for solutions to access health information in order to implement the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC).
- The solution must be privacy-enhancing, secure and resilient, interoperable, cost-effective, and easy-to-use and it should use federated identity credentials in healthcare
- By using federated identity credentials, the organization said it will streamline access to EHRs and save time and money as well as enhance better outcomes for security and privacy.
Dive Insight:
The organization will be collaborating with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) at HHS, which will review applications and provide technical support for implementation and operation of the pilot.
There are several key requirements that must be included in the projects such as: interoperable with other identity federations in the healthcare sector; enable online access to at least two different healthcare organizations; and include collecting metrics and other information about the implementation of the federated credential solution that contributes to a best practices guidance document.
Pilot partners have to provide information on how they implemented the solution and rate its performance to contribute to a jointly published document that could be used as a guide for other healthcare systems.
The organization said it will fund one award in the range of $750,000 to $1 million for 18 months.The application deadline is June 1, 2016.
