EmblemHealth, which describes itself as one of the nation's largest nonprofit health plans, is known for its efforts to rebound from previous financial and administative issues through the leadership of Karen Ignagni, who traded her position at the helm of America's Health Insurance Plans to run EmblemHealth last year.
"We are honored to partner with the City of New York and its Unions to offer the City's hard-working men and women affordable, value-based health care," Ignagni said in a prepared statement. "This partnership highlights the City's innovative leadership by embracing value-based strategies to achieve both cost savings, and improved health care outcomes to employees and their families."
The New York comptroller's office issued a report Monday urging hospitals in the state to stabilize their cash level as it is projected to be the lowest in at least 15 years at the end of the fiscal year.
