Dive Brief:
- Looking to find the formula for how health IT use could help unlock value in the healthcare delivery chain, the Electronic Health Record Association (EHRA) has formed a workgroup focused on healthcare delivery system reform, according to an association press release.
- "There is a central relationship between health information technology (IT) and the significant delivery system and payment reform efforts currently underway to shift healthcare toward value-based and integrated care models," said Mark Segal, PhD, EHRA Chair.
- The EHRA's Delivery System Reform Workgroup will bring together providers, payers and patient advocacy groups to develop ways to use health IT to transform the current fee-for-service model to the value-based model being proffered by Medicare and others.
Dive Insight:
Payer reform is moving forward as health IT takes center stage in an industry that is evolving faster than any other time in America's history. Understanding how Big Data and health IT fit into this ongoing evolution is one of the most complex issues being faced by every stakeholder in the industry today. While it may seem overkill for yet another workgroup to be talking about the same issues being discussed at every level of the HHS and ONC, the group may provide value.
