Dive Brief:
- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has postponed the release of data from its risk corridors program.
- The program, which was developed under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), was intended to mitigate the risk of insurers taking on new members who were previously uninsured.
- Insurers that sold plans on the ACA exchanges were required to submit their data to the program by July 31.
Dive Insight:
"While conducting quality assurance of the risk corridors data, we have identified a significant number of discrepancies in the data, which makes it necessary to conduct additional data validation," the agency said in a statement. "This review includes, but is not limited to, comparing risk corridors submissions with other data available to CMS."
The agency initally had planned to publish the data Aug. 14. If CMS determines it is necessary for an insurer to resubmit its risk corridors data, the agency will work with the insurer to do so.
