- Baptist Health System has broken ground on its new $50-million orthopedic center, which will span 77,000 square feet. The facility will be built at the North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
- It will serve as a hub for treatments such as joint replacements, arthroscopic surgery and spine treatments. The center will include a 15-bed post-anesthesia unit, 10 operation and recovery rooms and a 30-bed inpatient unit.

Baptist Health System includes five acute care hospitals in the San Antonio area, as well as a children's center, a women's health center, rehabilitation services and various wellness centers. The company reported a 3.7% increase in operating revenue for six months ending June 30 over the same time period last year, and had a slight increase in ER visits (2.4%) and admissions (2.2%), according to Modern Healthcare. Baptist recently signed an agreement with Tenet to create a joint venture to operate a healthcare network in the Birmingham and central Alabama region.
